Mijas opens the call for applications to the new plan Cometha

  • The Local Council allocates 10.3 million to subsidies to retail trade, tourism companies, hospitality and small self-employed businesses

The period to present applications opens on Friday, September 17th

The Mijas Town Hall announced on Thursday 16th the opening of the call for the new Cometha Plan, which will allocate 10.3 million euros to aid for retail trade, tourism companies, hospitality and small self-employed enterprises. According to the mayor, Josele González (PSOE), it is a subsidy programme that, unlike the 2020 Orea Plan, this time only targets businesses with activity in the municipality, “but the purpose is the same, to help those family members, freelancers and companies dedicated to the tourism field that have had problems in the economic and labor areas in recent months; in fact, the most important requirement included in the call is that they must have had a 30 percent decrease in their turnover in the first half of this year compared to the same period of 2019”.

González also recalled that, from the Orea Plan, more than 3,500 companies benefited, many of which will be able to opt for this second subsidy programme again. The mayor of  Mijas recalled that “those interested will have from Friday September 17th to October 15th to present all the required documentation”.
Requirements

To access these grants, applicants must meet different requirements, including providing an economic activity located in Mijas, not having a workforce of more than 25 employees and being registered with the Social Security since at least January 2019.

“From the Employment Promotion area we are available for any consultation or information, both in person and through our email”, said the councillor in charge of this department, Laura Moreno (PSOE), who also asked the consultancies and agencies of the area to “use the information published in the bases to facilitate all the procedures to the self-employed and businesses of Mijas.”

Likewise, the councillor reported that up to four numbers  have been enabled “where municipal technicians will be answering any type of doubts”.

For his part, the Councillor for Tourism, José Carlos Martín (Cs), reiterated that “we are not going to stop working in the next two or three months that we have left until we can carry out the payment of these grants, because we know that they are important and necessary for many freelancers and entrepreneurs”.
