Mijas receives 30,000 € for the digitalisation of its tourist resources

  • This grant is earmarked for the creation of an online platform to support the Mijas, Sun and Golf brand

The grant will help the golf sector become more competitive and attract more tourists

The Mayor of Mijas, Josele González (PSOE), and the First Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Tourism, José Carlos Martín (Cs), received on Thursday 10th at the Town Hall, the Junta de Andalucía Delegate in Malaga, Nuria Rodríguez, to hold a working meeting in which they announced that the municipality has already received the grant of 30,000 euros. It aims for the implementation of information and communication technologies in municipal tourism resources and facilities (Munitic), with which the Department is already working. “With this grant of almost 30,000 euros, we can continue to address the digitisation of our tourism sector. The pandemic has taught us that new technologies play a fundamental role in this area, attracting more tourists who are looking for quick and efficient information about the visiting area. We are sure that with this new digital boost, we will manage to attract many more tourists to our city so that 2022 will be a success for everyone,” said the Mijas Councillor, who highlighted how golf “is an added value within the tourism sector. Not in vain do Mijas, Benahavis and Marbella have 70 per cent of the golf courses in the province.

  • The Mijas municipality is developing, with this help, the creation of a platform to support the ‘Mijas, Sun and Golf’ brand and that will be finished in April |

González took the opportunity to stress that “the Town Hall will always work hand in hand with the other administrations to improve the productivity of our tourism sector”.
This grant is earmarked for the creation of an online platform to support the Mijas, Sun and Golf brand. “We are already developing this website which will be finished in April. It will allow us to boost this important segment in our municipality. This joint work between the Board and the City Council allows us to join forces to promote our destination internationally. Tourists and golf lovers can have, at their fingertips, the 12 courses in the city” said Martin.

A digital platform to boost the brand

The process of digitalisation and technological improvement of the Mijas golf sector will allow for greater promotion of the destination both nationally and internationally. This backup will have one of the tools that, according to the Tourism Councillor, “have been mostly on the department’s regular meetings with professionals in the sector, such as to hire ‘green-fee’ via the Internet, among other advantages”. The platform will include all the fields, their characteristics, and their products will be displayed and marketed. It would include resources such as virtual tours, landscaping with drones and aspects related to translation into different languages.
