The Tourism Councillor, José Carlos Martín, reports that his Department is ready for the tours to the traditional village centre

The First Deputy Mayor of Mijas and Tourism Councillor, José Carlos Martín (Cs), reported this morning that the Department is already getting ready for the excursions' arrival of the largest cruise ship in the world, the Wonder of the Seas. It will dock in Malaga City on Saturday, the 30th of April. "This type of tourism is interesting for our municipality, as we are one of the main targets of the people who come on these ships. Mijas Pueblo is only 25 minutes away from Malaga by car, and the visitor can enjoy one of the most popular attractions when coming to the South of Spain. They can visit a typical Mediterranean village, its views, historical and cultural heritage, and its gastronomy and handicrafts", says the Councillor.

The cruise liner, which has a capacity for 6,988 passengers and a crew of 2,300 people, arrives for the first time in our country and is a boost for the entire Costa del Sol. We have presented our Selfie Route with 15 outstanding points in such an environment as ours. So much that international companies such as Nutella have included one of the route pictures in their limited edition 'Lo Bueno se Queda en Casa' . We have the good stuff at home. Mijas is the only one chosen in Andalusia out of 15 destinations", adds Martín.

Thus, even if the traveller does not stay overnight, consumption increases and, therefore, stimulates the local economy and generates jobs. In addition as Martín pointed out, "the Selfie Route also serves as an added attraction, a 'digital word of mouth' through social networks of all tourists who immortalise their experience in the municipality".

According to the Tourism Area, Mijas"continues on the rise at the top of the favourite holiday destinations". During the last year and a half, it has been named 'Capital of rural tourism in Malaga' and has been one of 20 best rural coastal destinations in Spain. Moreover, the well-known tourist accommodation website eBooking has highlighted Mijas as one of the fastest-growing places, increasing its searches by 69 per cent.
