This project "has made possible, through the subsidy-in-kind framework, the repair of roads that had not been upgraded for 30 and 40 years"

48 urbanisations throughout the municipality of Mijas have already seen their streets renovated thanks to the Urbanisation Asphalting Plan that the Town Hall has been implementing for the last seven years. The fifth edition of this plan continues this week with the asphalting of 12 streets in Calypso and Chalets Rocío. "We are talking about an investment of 330,000 euros. This plan involves an investment of 1.6 million euros in a total of 15 urbanisations. These works began at the end of December 2022 and are expected to finish in February", explained the councillor responsible for Infrastructures and Works, José Carlos Martín (Cs), who added that "it was necessary to upgrade these deteriorated roads".

With this fifth plan, a total of 47 streets will be totally or partially affected, totalling 15 kilometres of asphalting, which will renew the paving or road signs, among other improvements. So far, the fifth edition of the plan has reached the urbanisations of Doña Pilar, El Coto, Mijas Golf, Calypso and Chalets Rocío and will be extended, until the beginning of February, to the following urbanisations: Ana María, Buganvillas, Calahonda, Campomijas, Cortijo Calahonda, Gran Calahonda, La Sierrezuela, Los Olivos phase 1 and 2, Miraflores and Playa Marina.

In 2016 this project was launched through the legal framework of the subsidy-in-kind which has meant a leap in quality for the residents of these urban areas. "With this asphalting plan", added the councillor, "the total invested in asphalting urbanisations is approximately 2.6 million euros, a figure higher than the 2.2 million dedicated to the conservation of streets in the municipality carried out by the Operational Services area". According to the Infrastructure and Works councillor, "this project has made it possible to repair the road surfaces of streets that had not been upgraded for 30 and 40 years".

The department also apologised for any possible inconvenience these works may cause to residents and reminded them that "the department attends to and studies the requests made by property owners and we have already carried out resurfacing work in fifty housing estates. We will continue to work on all of them and we are already working on the sixth plan", said Martín.

More asphalting projects
Likewise, Infrastructures and Works continues to work to implement the VI Asphalting Plan, which will begin this year 2023, so that soon the rest of the urbanisations that need to see improvements on their streets will be included in this renovation project that has been developed by the Town Hall and that responds to the needs of the urbanisations. In addition to the Urbanisation Asphalting Plan, the Mijas Town Hall carries out every year the Asphalt Conservation and Maintenance Plan and the Asphalt Improvement and Repair Plan, both of which are carried out by the Operational Services Department.
